Contrary to incomplete extraction tracers like MIBI, 82Rb and ammonia, radioactive water have complete extraction. This means you see the full dynamic range of absolute MBF values in your radioactive water images without truncation of high flow values. To illustrate the difference between incomplete extraction tracers and a complete extraction tracer, we have applied the extraction conversion for 82Rb (Lortie et al, Eur J Nucl Med Mol Imaging, 2007) to a gray scale aerial photo.
How do you want to see the world?
Images of incomplete tracers like 82Rb are similar to overexposed photographs. Details in the medium to high flow range are lost for incomplete extraction tracers, but maintained for radioactive water.
